Washington [US], December 27: White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt announced she is pregnant with her second child, becoming the first person to become pregnant while holding the position.
NBC News reported on December 27th that White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt announced she is pregnant with her second child, becoming the first person in this high-ranking position to become pregnant.
"The best Christmas gift we could wish for, a baby girl due in May 2026," Leavitt (28) wrote in a caption on Instagram on December 26, along with photos of her standing next to a Christmas tree and an ultrasound image.
"My husband and I are incredibly excited about having a new member in our family and are eagerly awaiting the day our son becomes an older brother," the press secretary wrote.
Leavitt's first child with her husband, real estate developer Nicholas Riccio (60), was born in July 2024, a few months before President Donald Trump's re-election in November. The boy was named after his father but has the nickname Niko.
Ms. Leavitt and her husband met in 2022 when she was unsuccessfully running for the New Hampshire state legislature.
"He's amazing. He's my biggest supporter. He's my best friend. He's my rock," Leavitt shared earlier this year.
"He's been incredibly supportive of me building a successful career, and of course, he's the father of my children. He's the best dad I've ever seen and has always been incredibly supportive, especially during this turbulent period of my life," said Leavitt.
Ms. Leavitt became the youngest White House press secretary ever when she was appointed in January, at the start of President Trump's second term.
On social media, Leavitt thanked officials in the Trump administration for their support as a mother. "I am also incredibly grateful to President Trump and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles for their support and for fostering a family-friendly environment at the White House. 2026 will be a wonderful year and I am so excited to be a mother of a baby girl," she wrote.
A White House spokesperson has not responded to NBC News' questions about whether Leavitt plans to take maternity leave after giving birth to her daughter, or whether anyone will temporarily fill her duties.
