Lusaka (Zambia), July 25: Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Saturday commended the country's national women's soccer team for putting up a spirited fight against China at the ongoing 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.
The Copper Queens had to come from behind to force a 4-all draw against China in Group F, with Captain Barbra Banda scoring her second hat-trick at the tournament.
The draw comes after the team suffered an embarrassing 3-10 loss to the Netherlands.
The Zambian leader said he was proud of the team which deserved to win the game.
"Thank you girls for putting our nation on the world map in women's football. You have my support," he said on his Facebook page.
Banda said there were a lot of improvements in the game against China after a dismal performance against the Netherlands.
She said the team wanted a win against China but unfortunately drew but added that she was happy with the overall team performance, according to an interview posted on the Football Association of Zambia Facebook page.
Zambia's next game is against Brazil on Tuesday next week.
