New Delhi [India], October 20: For decades, the relationship between a dentist and a dental laboratory was largely transactional. A case was sent to the lab, a restoration was manufactured, and the finished prosthesis was sent back to the clinic. Somewhere between those steps, however, something important was often missing: conversation.
There was limited opportunity to discuss the patient's expectations, understand the dentist's clinical approach, plan the case together or translate an idea into a precise restorative outcome. The laboratory was often expected to make the restoration, rather than become part of the thinking behind it.
But dentistry is changing.
As digital workflows, CAD/CAM, intraoral scanning, digital treatment planning and advanced manufacturing become increasingly integrated into modern digital dentistry, the role of the dental laboratory is changing with them. Today, a dentist doesn't simply need a laboratory that can manufacture a crown, bridge or veneer. They need someone who can understand the case, communicate clearly, interpret the dentist's vision, solve technical challenges and contribute to the outcome.
This is the shift Advance Dental Export (ADE), Surat has been building toward - from a dental laboratory to a dental technology partner for modern dental practices.
Founded by Haresh Savani in 2009, Advance Dental Export has grown around a combination of craftsmanship, personalisation, digital technology and collaboration with dental professionals. Its philosophy goes beyond just manufacturing dental prosthetics. Because a smile is never just a restoration from a laboratory. It is an outcome created for a person.
The Dental Laboratory Is No Longer Just a Manufacturer
The modern dental case at ADE begins long before a restoration reaches the patient's mouth.
It can begin with a conversation.
What does the dentist want to achieve? What does the patient expect? What does the clinical situation allow? What aesthetic details matter? What needs to be communicated between the clinic and the laboratory before anything is designed?
These questions can fundamentally change the way a case progresses.
Think of it like building a house. The final structure may be what everyone sees, but the outcome depends on everything that happened before the first brick was placed - the plan, measurements, materials, decisions and people involved.
Dental restorations are no different.
Digital dentistry has made this relationship even more connected. ADE works with digital workflows and supports major scanning and CAD/CAM ecosystems, including 3Shape, iTero, Cerec Connect, 3M ESPE and Carestream. Its capabilities span digital design, custom milling and digitally manufactured restorations.
But technology is only one part of the equation.
ADE's larger proposition is what happens when technology meets interpretation, communication and craftsmanship.
The result is our laboratory that does not simply receive instructions - it embraces change, takes on complex challenges and works towards finding the right solution for the case.
From Sending Cases to Collaborative Case Planning
One of the biggest changes in modern dentistry is the movement from case submission to case collaboration.
At Advance Dental Export, the relationship extends beyond fabrication to areas such as diagnostic wax-ups, implant planning, custom abutments, denture bars, shade analysis and custom milling.
This becomes especially important when a case is complex or highly aesthetic.
Because the dentist may know the patient clinically, while the dental technician brings another layer of expertise - the ability to interpret materials, morphology, proportions, contours and fabrication possibilities.
When these perspectives meet early, the restoration becomes less about following an order and more about building an outcome together.
That is also why communication matters.
ADE itself has emphasised the importance of structured communication and collaboration between dentists and laboratory technicians, recognising that better communication can improve workflow and restorative outcomes.
Because a smile that is created is not just about how it looks.
It is about how it fits, how it functions, how it feels - and how closely it reflects the treatment vision.
Where ADE Meets Ultimate Smile Design
If the future of dentistry is about thinking beyond what a laboratory can make, Ultimate Smile Design (USD) is a clear example of what that thinking can create. Ultimate Smile Design is ADE's premium smile-design concept.
Built around the idea that a smile should be considered before it is treated, it brings a design perspective to dentistry - looking beyond individual teeth to how shape, proportion and expression come together as a whole. The result is not a smile selected from a template, but one developed with intention around the person it belongs to.
For ADE, USD is a reflection of its belief that the future of dentistry will belong to those willing to rethink the process, not simply refine the product.
Technology That Connects the Clinic and the Laboratory
Digital dentistry has changed not only how restorations are manufactured, but also how people work together.
Digital impressions can move from the clinic to the laboratory without the limitations of traditional physical workflows. Digital designs can be reviewed, modified and translated into manufacturing instructions. CAD/CAM allows restorations and components to be produced with a high degree of digital precision.
Advance Dental Export has built its workflow around these developments, including digital scanning, CAD/CAM design, 3D printing and custom milling. It also works with authentic implant manufacturer hardware and custom CAD/CAM abutments, supporting implant cases while helping preserve manufacturer warranty requirements.
But this changes the question dentists should be asking.
It is no longer simply:
“Can the lab make this restoration?”
It is:
“Can the lab understand my case, work with my workflow and help me take the outcome further?”
For a technology partner, the answer has to be yes.
Precision Still Needs People
For all the progress in digital dentistry, there is one thing technology cannot replace: judgement.
A scanner can capture data. Software can generate a design. A milling machine can manufacture with remarkable consistency.
But someone still has to understand what the numbers mean.
Someone still has to recognise when a contour needs refinement, when an aesthetic detail feels off, when a material is right for the case - and, just as importantly, when something simply shouldn’t be done. Because knowing what to change is important, but knowing what to leave alone can be just as valuable.
That is where ADE's team of experienced dental professionals and technicians becomes central to its model.
Technology creates possibilities. People turn those possibilities into outcomes.
And perhaps that is the real evolution of the dental laboratory.
It is no longer technology versus craftsmanship.
It is technology with craftsmanship.
Building a More Connected Dental Practice
For dentists, the value of a technology-enabled laboratory is ultimately not about having more machines.
It is about having fewer gaps.
Fewer gaps between the clinic and laboratory.
Fewer gaps between the treatment plan and the final restoration.
Fewer gaps between what the dentist envisions and what the technician creates.
That is where a strong laboratory partnership can make a difference.
The modern dentist is also becoming increasingly conscious of differentiation. Patients are looking for personalised treatment, greater predictability and experiences that feel considered rather than standardised.
And for a dentist, standing apart is not always about offering more.
Sometimes, it is about doing the same thing differently - and doing it better.
That requires the right clinical expertise, the right technology and, increasingly, the right people behind the scenes.
Advance Dental Export: Building the Future of Digital Dentistry
Advance Dental Export's evolution reflects a larger transformation taking place across dentistry - and ADE is emerging as a flag bearer of that change.
Its current ecosystem reflects that scale: 500+ local partners, 750+ qualified professionals, 20+ countries served, 120,000+ cases and 12,000+ trusted dentists, backed by more than two decades of experience in the dental industry.
But numbers alone do not explain the shift.
The bigger story is what those relationships represent: a growing ecosystem where dentists, technicians and technology work more closely together, while keeping the patient at the heart of every outcome.
For Haresh Savani, the journey has been about evolving from a dental laboratory into a trusted provider of dental prosthetics and solutions for dental professionals. His vision today goes further - towards empowering dentists through solutions that bring together artistry, efficiency and predictability, while continuing to embrace emerging technologies and new possibilities in dentistry.
And the patient remains an important part of that journey. After all, every case begins with a clinical need, but ends with a person who has to live with, feel confident in and experience the result.
That is why the next generation of dental laboratories will need to think differently.
Not simply:
“What can we manufacture?”
But:
“What can we create that makes a difference?”
Because the future of dentistry will not be shaped by dentists, laboratories or technology working in isolation. It will come from bringing these forces closer together - with the patient at the centre.
For dentists looking to distinguish their work, elevate the patient experience and deliver outcomes that reflect their own clinical vision, the laboratory partnership becomes more than a backend function. It becomes part of how they practise differently.
And that is where Advance Dental Export sees its role: not simply keeping pace with the evolution of dentistry, but helping lead it.
ADE is at the forefront of this new era - one where the laboratory moves closer to the practice, the practice moves closer to the patient, and better possibilities begin with bringing the right people together.
For dentists ready to think beyond the conventional laboratory relationship, the next chapter of dentistry is already underway.
